2.5 Archive Types Configuration

Setting some archive types is very important for program functionality: if no archive type is specified, X-Arc is completely useless. When you tell X-Arc to open an archive, the program identifies it using archive types recognition patterns, and then opens it with the appropriate module. If necessary, the cofigured commands and options are used as well.

Clicking on Add you can add a new archive type, exactly as described about file types. The first three fields (name, filename pattern and contents pattern), work the same way as their corresponding fields in file types configuration. The "filename pattern" string gadget can be filled automatically by clicking on the button on the right, but only if you have already chosen an archive module for this type.

The module field specifies which module will take care of handling this archive type. You CAN'T handle an archive type if you don't have an appropriate module for it.

Once you have selected a module, you can configure it by clicking on the Module options button below. A little window will open, and you will be able to specify commands and options to be used with this particular archive type. These options and commands are not the same for every module: each module tells X-Arc about the commands it needs and the options it offers. This window is divided into three sections:

• Commands tells the module which executable(s) to use to handle archives. For example the LhA module needs only one command for all operations, while the ZIP module uses a command for adding files and another for extracting them. These fields must only contain the commands themselves, without any option. X-Arc will work even if you don't specify all commands, but will be unable to perform some operations.

• Flags are module-specific options. The module itself tells X-Arc which string to display beside each checkmark. For a descriptions of flags please refer to the documentation of that particular module.

• Among Other options you can set module verbosity, i.e. the amount of text the module will send to the output stream (see the misc section) during operations. Default header and compression specify default values for the two sliders in the file adding window.
